Frequently asked questions…
How do I get started?
If you are interested in registering for an offering, please email us. For coaching-based offerings, we will email you within one business day to schedule a 15-minute discovery video call (via Zoom). For workshop-based offerings/events, we will respond within one business day with an email outlining workshop/event details and any next steps for registration.
What should I expect during the discovery call?
The discovery call is a crucial step in our process. It's an opportunity for you and the coach to assess if you're a good match. The coach will provide clarity on the purpose, boundaries, and expectations of the process. You'll also get a chance to share your personal goals and what you hope to achieve through this partnership. If we're a good fit and you're ready to proceed, we'll schedule your first session.
*For couples interested in couples coaching, both partners must participate and be present during the discovery call.
What should I expect once a session is scheduled?
Once you have scheduled your first individual or couple session, we will send you paperwork electronically via a confidential, secure, and HIPPA-compliant platform.
During your initial session, we will explore your goals in-depth, creating a collaborative plan to help you achieve those goals.
Sessions after that are rooted in the established collaborative plan. However, you can modify or transform the plan through the compassionate inquiry process based on your current needs, aspirations, or mindful considerations. We invite you to remember that healing is often in the explorative process rather than the plan.
*For couples coaching, all sessions must include the participation and presence of both partners.
How do virtual sessions work?
We believe accessibility to healing and support is imperative. Therefore, our standard service offerings are virtual via Zoom or a similar platform. Before your scheduled session/workshop, you will be sent a link to your email or telephone. Please ensure you have a connection to the internet before each session. We encourage you to log on from a safe place with optimal privacy and limited distractions.
Our sessions are designed to be highly interactive. Please only register/apply if you are comfortable with being fully immersed in the experience with your webcam throughout sessions to promote social connection. We understand that privacy is important, and our practice respects your need for it. Session recording is prohibited.
What are your fees?
Please see our Offerings page for a review of our standard service/membership offerings. Session fees are processed on a recurring or non-recurring basis via autopayment using the payment method you have on file; please see your service agreement for additional information. Workshop and event fees are processed upon registration via electronic payment. We reserve the right to change or update our fees/policies anytime.
What is the cancellation policy?
It's important to note that any cancellations made less than 24 hours before your scheduled session, or in the case of a no-show, will result in a $50 fee being charged via autopay using the payment method on file.
You may cancel your membership anytime by providing written notice. Once your request is received, future autopayments will be canceled. Please cancel your membership at least four business days before your regular autopay date to avoid being charged. You may continue using your membership until the end of the calendar month you have been charged.
What is your refund policy?
All processed or in-process fees are non-refundable.
Do you accept insurance?
Our practice does not currently accept insurance. All services are private pay. We accept electronic payment via the platforms referenced in your service agreement. Established clients must always have a payment method on file for autopayments.

What is the definition of BIPOC?
The term ‘BIPOC’ stands for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. We understand that BIPOC is a controversial and triggering term for some people as it does not appropriately de-center whiteness. We have chosen to use the term BIPOC to describe our target population for the time being - as a matter of mainstream convenience only. Our practice also uses (and prefers) ‘Global Majority’ as a collective term for people of African, Asian, Latin American, and Indigenous descent, as it is more accurate and empowering.
What defines a survivor of toxic stress and trauma?
Everyone experiences stress; however, ‘toxic stress’ can occur when an individual experiences chronically stressful situations that lead to a prolonged stress response. Trauma is defined as a stressful or distressing occurrence (acute or chronic) that overwhelms the individual’s ability to cope. Toxic stress, unresolved- becomes traumatic. Toxic stress and trauma, unresolved- lead to poor health outcomes and health disparities for the BIPOC community. Our clients are resilient human beings who have survived or are currently surviving toxic stress and trauma and are looking to optimize their health, healing, and happiness despite these challenges.
Examples of common toxic stressors that impact the BIPOC community (non-exhaustive list):
Everyday and Systemic Racial discrimination
Gender-based discrimination
Sexuality-based discrimination
Parental stress
Economic stress
Environmental stress
Acculturative Stress
Relational Stress
Examples of common trauma experiences that impact the BIPOC community (non-exhaustive list):
Direct Racial Trauma (Individually Experienced)
Transmitted Racial Trauma (Inter-Generational Experienced)
Vicarious Racial Trauma (Systemically Experienced)
Adverse Childhood Experiences
Domestic Violence
Sexual Trauma
Poverty
Does The Space & Advocacy Project exclusively serve BIPOC survivors of toxic stress and trauma?
Yes. Please review eligibility before registering for an offering.
How does systemic racism impact the community you serve?
Though some form of trauma has impacted everyone, BIPOC communities endure unique variations on this theme due to the chronic stress of systemic racialized trauma. As a result, our communities face more significant health disparities and sub-optimal health outcomes. We need diverse trauma-informed options for healing, such as the services offered by The Space & Advocacy Project.
Due to systemic racism and discrimination, BIPOC communities are chronically underserved and often face significant barriers to accessing mental health support services. We need more accessible options for mental health support, such as the services offered by The Space & Advocacy Project.

Does The Space & Advocacy Project offer services for children?
No, not at this time.
Our practice offers trauma-informed services for adult members of the BIPOC community. Our minimum age for services is 25 years old because this is the average age when the thinking portion of the brain (prefrontal cortex) is fully developed. We want to ensure that our clients have had considerable time to engage in the healing process from their toxic stress/trauma and hold the necessary experience and knowledge base to draw on this healing process for the coaching partnership.
I am a member of the BIPOC community who recently experienced a new trauma that is severely impacting my sense of wellbeing and quality of life; I have not yet been evaluated or treated by a licensed mental health professional. Am I a candidate for your practice's service offerings at this time?
No, not at this time.
The Space & Advocacy Project does not offer services for clients severely impacted by acute trauma. The professional mental health therapy/medical community better serves this population.
You are invited to visit our Disclaimer page for more information/resources.
I am a member of the BIPOC community who is a survivor of toxic stress and trauma. I have never done any healing work or sought mental health care to address my trauma history/trauma symptoms. Am I a candidate for your practice's service offerings at this time?
No, not at this time.
The Space & Advocacy Project offers trauma-informed services for clients in an active state of healing; this means our clients have implemented healing strategies or received mental health care regarding managing their trauma symptoms before engaging with our practice for additional mental health support.
Whether you're new to mindfulness or looking to deepen your practice, our community-based mindfulness workshops are open to all. If you're interested in cultivating your mindfulness skills and experiencing the nurturing power of collective healing, you may be a good candidate for our workshops.

We love that you honor and respect the spaces created exclusively to help BIPOC communities feel safe and supported during our healing process. You may also register for a community-based mindfulness workshop to experience the nurturing power of collective healing and cultivate your mindfulness skills.
How does The Space & Advocacy Project give back to the community?
Great question!
Our practice is socially conscious. We deeply understand and appreciate the profound impact our community has on us. Equally, we are mindful of our influence on our community and strive to make it a positive one.
We want to do our part to build, support, and create positive social initiatives. We are committed to supporting the organizations that support the communities we serve.
A portion of all registration proceeds for our community-based workshop events is donated to a local non-profit organization that provides services to improve the lives of BIPOC/LGBTQ+ trauma survivors.
